1. Title of Hockey Tournament- XVII GAIL CHOTA NAGPUR TRIBAL HOCKEY TOURNAMENT 2014-15 held between 5th July to 31st August 2014 in Shivaji Stadium, New Delhi : Organised by Hockey Association of Chota Nagpur Tribals, Delhi (Regd.)

  1. The final match of the XVII GAIL Chota Nagpur Tribal Hockey Tournament 2014-15 was played on 31st August, 2014 at Shivaji Hockey Stadium, Synthetic Turf Ground, New Delhi. The final match was played between Ekta Hockey Club and Masihgarh Hockey team.  The Chief Guest of the Final Match was Shri A. Kaviraj, Deputy General Manager (Marketing), GAIL (I) Ltd was present to encourage the teams and organizing association  and Shri Ashok Singh, Managing Director, M/s Zypher System Pvt Ltd was the Guest of Honour of the occasion. The other dignitaries include Mr. Bhupinder Singh of Hockey Delhi,Senior Government officials and senior officials from public sectors like Air India, GAIL, ONGC, Indian Oil etc., were present. A sizable crowd was also present to witness the final match.
  1. It is informed that as many as 32 men hockey teams have participated in the tournament. The teams were divided in eight groups of four teams each. The initial round of matches was played on league basis and knockout basis and eight top teams forming Group I & II were selected for Super League. Top two teams of each group were played in the Semi Finals. The teams qualified for Semi Finals were as under:
Huda City Centre Hockey Spirit Club
Dwarka Sports Club Jharkhand Sports Club
  1. The final match was played between Jharkhand Sports Club and Huda City Centre. Final Match was opened by Chief Guests & other guests with the introduction of both the teams at 3.30 pm. Before the match, Chief Guests and Guests of Honour were welcomed by traditional cultural group dance. The match started at very fast note with the attacks and counter attacks by the teams.  As the match progressed, it became interesting and game was enjoyed by the spectators. Huda City Centre clinched the XVII GAIL Chota Nagpur Tribal Hockey Tournament 2014-15 by defeating Jharkhand Sports Club by 3 goals to 2. The umpires of the match were posted by Hockey India who supervised the final match exceedingly well.  After the match, the prize distribution ceremony took place and cash awards announced to winner i.e. Huda City Centre, runners up team i.e.  Jharkhand Sports Club, 3rd placed team i.e. Dwarka sports Club and 4th placed team of Rs. 50,000/-, Rs.25,000/- Rs.10,000/- and Rs.7,000/-respectively.  The Championship Trophy and Runners-up trophy were handed over to Winner & Runner-up teams. Display cheque were also handed over to above teams The Best Player prize (memento and cash prize of Rs.5000/-) of the tournament awarded to Joseph Nag of Huda City Centre for his skillful game.

 

 

2. Title of Hockey Tournament- 2nd INDIANOIL CHOTANAGPUR TRIBAL GIRLS HOCKEY TOURNAMENT 2014-15 held between 30th September until 5th October 2014 in Shivaji Stadium, New Delhi : Organised by Hockey Association of Chota Nagpur Tribals, New Delhi (Regd.)

The 2nd Chotanagpur Tribal Woman Hockey Tournament 2014-15 held at Shivaji Stadium, New Delhi organised by Hockey Association of Chhotanagpur Tribals, Delhi Between 30th September and 5 October (6 days).

As many as 8 hockey teams of tribal girls from Jharkhand, Odisha and Delhi have participated in the tournament. The teams were divided in 2 Groups of four teams each as per the following details:

Group A 1 Simdega Hockey Club Group B 1 Kesramal Hockey Club
2 Delhi XI 2 Nav Yuwak Sangh, Latthakhaman
3 Nehru Youth Club, Rajgangpur 3 Panposh Hostel, Rourkela
4 Birsa Munda Club,  Khunti 4 Ursuline Convent, Gumla

It is noted that Hockey Association of Chota Nagpur Tribals has committed to undertaking Community Development Programme through conduct of hockey tournaments exclusively for tribal women. Every year the Association conducts the hockey tournament.  This year was the 2nd tournament of the series which was held from 30.9.2014 to 05.10.2014 at Shivaji Stadium, New Delhi.  The Association has also introduced the training component for the upgradation of the skill of the players and imparted  training during this period in the  form of both on-the-field on 30.9.2014 and off-the-field training program (class room training) on 03.10.2014.

On-the-field training was undertaken by Shri Amlan Toppo, Ex-national player of Corps of Signal (Army) team, who taught about many basics of the game like pushing, hitting, scooping, stopping the hockey ball and proper handling of hockey stick. He also given the tips on how to dodge the opponent with speed and stick work without wasting of the time, how to score field goals, how to convert penalty corners into a goal, how to take penalty shootout during tie-breaker, how to defend own goals including during penalty corner drill, etc. Special attention was given to the Goal Keepers to defend their goals during regular playing time, during penalty corners and during penalty shootout, etc. The members of the hockey teams have participated in the training program on 30.9.2014 at Shivaji Stadium just after the lunch time.

The main subjects chose for the Class Room Orientation Program conducted on 03.10.2014 was a whole day program at Conference Hall, Ambedkar Bhawan, Aram Bagh, New Delhi were ‘The Game of Hockey and Tribal Community’, ‘An Introduction to International Hockey Players from Tribal Community’,  ‘Contemporary Hockey with Rule Change’ and address by Ex-International Tribal Woman Hockey Players. Fr. Vincent Ekka was Chief Moderator supported by Fr. Ranjit Tigga and Shri Ganesh Majhi. Mr. Mahesh Kumar, an Official appointed by Hockey India took charge on the Rules of the game of Hockey. The subjects of the Seminar were presented through power point presentation and mostly taught on interactive basis. Girls, coaches, umpires and managers have learnt about the rules which they never knew earlier and cleared their doubts about umpiring issues. As it was introduced by the Association, the program was liked and benefitted by all participants.

After the completion of  league matches of the teams against each other in Group A and Group B respectively, two teams from each group has qualified for semifinals which  are indicated below:

Group A: Simdega Hockey Club and Birsa Munda Club,  Khunti

Group B: Nav Yuwak Sangh, Latthakhaman and Panposh Hostel, Rourkela

In the semifinal matches, Simdega Hockey Club and Panposh Hostel, Rourkela have qualified for the Final match by defeating their rivals respectively.

 The final match of the 2nd INDIANOIL CHOTANAGPUR TRIBAL GIRLS HOCKEY TOURNAMENT 2014-15 was played on October 5, 2014 at Shivaji Hockey Stadium, Synthetic Turf Ground, played between Simdega  Hockey Club and Panposh Hostel, Rourkela.  The Chief Guest of the Final Match was Shri N K Parmar, General Manager (HR), IndianOil Corporation Ltd and Shri Ambuj Sharma, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises and Shri  Narinder Thakur, GM (Admn & CSR) were the Guests of Honour of the occasion. The other dignitaries present  include Mr. Sanjay Bisht, AAO, LIC of India, Shri N K Chopra, Managing Director, ICCH Global Consulting Company, Shri N J Verma from M/s Andrew Yule & Company Ltd, Col. K P Mishra, Executive Director, Shri Kenneth Tigga , Development Officer, LIC of India, Fr.  Vincent Ekka, Scholar of Jawaharlal University, Shri Emil Lakra, Past President of the Association  and  Fr. William Choudhary Parish Priest, St. Paul’s Church, Delhi Cantt.  A sizable crowd was also present to witness the final match.

Final Match was started with the introduction of players of both the teams to  Chief Guest &  Guests of Honour and  other Distinguished Guests at 3.30 pm.  Before the match, Chief Guests and Guests of Honour were welcomed by the traditional cultural group dance by the Janakpuri cultural group.  A 15 minutes cultural show was presented to the Chief Guest and other Guests and spectators.    The match started at very fast note with the attacks and counter attacks by both  the teams.  As the match progressed, it became interesting and game was enjoyed by the spectators. Simdega Hockey Club clinched the 2nd INDIANOIL CHOTANAGPUR TRIBAL GIRLS HOCKEY TOURNAMENT 2014-15 defeating Panposh Hostel, Rourkela by 3 goals to 2. The umpires, technical officials, judges, umpire manager and tournament director of   the tournament were posted by Hockey India who supported the entire hockey tournament including the proceedings of final match exceedingly well.  After the match, the prize distribution ceremony took place and cash awards announced to winner i.e. Simdega Hockey Club, runners up team i.e.  Panposh Hostel, Rourkela  and 3rd placed team i.e. Nav Yuwak Sangh and 4th  placed team Birsa Munda Club,  Khunti of Rs. 70,000/-, Rs.40,000/- , 25,000/- and Rs.15,000/- respectively.  The Championship Trophy and Runners-up trophy were handed over to Winner & Runner-up teams. Display cheques were also handed over to above teams.  The Most Talented Player of the Tournament went to Rajni Soreng of Simdega Hockey Club.  She was awarded with memento and cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-   for her skillful game. At the end, Col. K P Mishra from M/s HMT Ltd gave away lady wrist watches as a special gift for the winning team Simdega Hockey Club and tournament officials.

3. REPORT OF THE 4th ONGC CHOTA NAGPUR TRIBAL KNOCK OUT HOCKEY TOURNAMENT (2014-15)

Title of Hockey Tournament-4th ONGC CHOTA NAGPUR TRIBAL KNOCK OUT HOCKEY TOURNAMENT 2014-15 held between 8th February to 29th March 2015 (In Weekends) in Shivaji Stadium New Delhi : Organised by Hockey Association of Chota Nagpur Tribals, Delhi (Regd.)

  1. The 4th ONGC CHOTA NAGPUR  TRIBAL KNOCK OUT HOCKEY TOURNAMENT 2014-15 held between 8th February to 29th March 2015 [8th, 14th, 21st & 22nd  February and 7th, 8th, 14th, 22nd, 28th & 29th March 2015  (11 days)] at Synthetic Turf of Shivaji Stadium (NDMC ground), New Delhi. The tournament has been sponsored by reputed public sector company namely ONGC.
  1. It is reported that as many as 27 men hockey teams have participated and the teams were divided in Eight Groups. The initial round of matches was played on round- robin/league basis in each group and eight Group Leaders joined in the knock out matches. Four teams qualified for Semi-Finals are as under: DLF Phase-III, Thomas Club, Barla XI and Jharkhand Sports. DLF Phase III and Jharkhand Sports were defeated their rivals in the Semi Final matches played at Synthetic Turf of Shivaji Stadium, New Delhi on 29.3.2015.
  1. The final match of the 4th ONGC CHOTA NAGPUR TRIBAL KNOCK OUT HOCKEY TOURNAMENT 2014-15 was played on 29th March 2015 at Shivaji Hockey Stadium, Synthetic Turf Ground, New Delhi between DLF Phase III and Jharkhand Sports Hockey team. The Chief Guest of the final match was Mr. Alok Misra, ED, Chief CSR- ONGC Ltd however as he was not able to come, Mr. S.P. Toppo, Group General Manager, ONGC has represented him and Group Capt. Albert Baa, Indian Air Force. Other Dignitaries include Shri Scot Zior, Founder & Director of Zior Infotech Software Development Technology., Fr. Ranjit Tigga, Coordinator of Tribal People in Indian Social Institute, Musical Group., Fr. William Choudhary, Parish Priest, St. Paul’s Church, Delhi Cantt. (Hon’ble Mamber of Dalit Christian Society)., Shri Alok Michiary, YMCA for Tribal Affairs, Mr. Bhupinder Singh, General Secretary of Hockey Delhi and other distinguished guests including senior Government officials and senior officials from public sector units viz. Air India, GAIL, ONGC, India Oil, etc., People of NGOs relating to development of tribal people were also present. A sizable match viewer and supporters were present to cheer the players and the teams on the final match.
  1. Before the match, Mr. S.P. Toppo as well as Group Capt. Albert Baa, Chief Guest and Distinguished Guests were welcomed by traditional cultural group dance by Salomi Cultural Group of Friends Colony led by Shri Kulranjan Toppo. The final match was inaugurated by Mr. S.P. Toppo, Group Capt. Albert Baa Chief Guests & Distinguished Guests with the introduction of both the teams.  The match started at very fast note with the attacks and counter attacks by both the teams.  Jharkhand Sports Club mostly with experienced players forged ahead by three goals in the first half of play. DLF Phase III though got the chance to score in couple of occasions but due to inexperience they wasted the opportunity.  In the second half DLF Phase III manage to score one goal. The Final score has been in favour of Jharkhand Sports by 4 goals to 1.

After the match, the prize distribution ceremony took place and cash awards sponsored by ONGC announced to winner i.e. Jharkhand Sports Hockey Club, runners up team i.e. DLF Phase III and 3rd placed team i.e. Barla XI of Rs. 50,000/-, Rs.25,000/- and Rs.10,000/- respectively. A consolation prize of Rs. 7000/- has been announced to Thomas Club.  The championship trophy was handed over to Jharkhand Sports Hockey Club. Display cheques were handed over to above teams by Mr. S.P. Toppo and Group Capt. Albert Baa Chief Guest and Distinguished Guests. The Best Player of the Tournament prize consisting of memento and cash prize of Rs.5,000/- awarded to Kuldeep Minz (GK) of Jharkhand Sports for his inspirational game to his team. Mr. Ashok Singh, MD, M/s Zephyr Ltd has announced to give incentives of Rs. 20000/- and Rs. 10000/- for Winner & Runners up teams respectively.
