1. Title of Tournament-XIV GAIL CHOTA NAGPUR TRIBALS HOCKEY TOURNAMENT 2011-12 : Organised by Hockey Association of Chota Nagpur Tribals, Delhi (Regd.)

  1. The final match of the XIV GAIL Chota Nagpur Tribal Hockey Tournament 2011-12 was played on 11th December, 2011 at MDC National Hockey Stadium, Synthetic Turf Ground, New Delhi. The final match was played between NOIDA Hockey Club and Aya Nagar Hockey team.  The Chief Guest of the final match was Shri Kariya Munda, Parliamentarian from Khunti and Dy. Speaker Lok Sabha who is a very renowned personality and spent many years in the Indian Politics and is connected with social work for the tribal people in Khunti and Ranchi, Jharkhand. A Chief Guest from Gail’s side,  Mr. Ajay Kumar Rudra, Executive Director (HR & Law) from Gail (India) Limited was present to encourage the teams and organizing association. The other dignitaries include Shri Shanti Priya Beck, Dir (Vig.), Railway Board, Shri Alok Michiyari, YMCA, Shri Mukti Prakash Tirkey, Editor, Dalit Adivasi Duniya, Fr. William Chaudhari,  Archdiocese of Delhi,  Mr. Bhupinder Singh and Mr. Ramlal of Hockey Delhi.  Other dignitaries present include senior Government officials and senior officials from public sector like Air India, etc. A sizeable crowd was also present to witness the final match.
  2. It is informed that as many as 32 hockey teams of men and three ladies teams have participated in the tournament. The teams were divided in eight groups of four teams each. The initial rounds of matches were played on league basis at different venue, i. e., grass ground of Don Bosco Technical Institute, Okhla. However, the knockout matches were played starting from Pre-Quarter Final matches at MDC National Hockey Stadium.
  1. The final match was inaugurated by Chief Guests & other guests with the introduction of both the teams at 2.45 pm. The match started at very fast note with the attacks and counter attacks by the teams.  As the match progressed, it became interesting and game was enjoyed by the spectators. NOIDA Hockey Club finally clinched the XIV Chota Nagpur Tribal Hockey Tournament 2011-12 by defeating Ayanagar Hockey Club by 3 goals to 1 . The umpires of the match were national umpires, Ms. Vimla Kujur and Mr. Selestine Baxla who supervised the final match exceedingly well.  After the match, the prize distribution ceremony took place and cash awards sponsored by GAIL announced to winner, i.e., NOIDA Hockey Club, runners up team, i.e.,  Aya Nagar and 3rd placed team, i.e., Thomas Club.  The championship trophies were handed over to Winners and Runners-up teams. The third place match was played at 10 a.m. in the morning in which Thomas Club defeated Dwarka Hockey Club by 4 goals to 3 via tie-breaker after playing goalless draw during the regulation time.  A Women final hockey match was also played between Munirka Hockey Club and Ekta Hockey Club at 11.30 am. Ekta Hockey Club won the match by 5 goals to 1. The cash prizes as sponsored by M/s GAIL (India) Ltd. were announced as follows:

1st Prize – Rs.50,000/- for winner of the tournament – NOIDA Hockey Club

2nd Prize-  Rs.25,000/- for runners up of the tournament – Aya Nagar,

3rd Prize –  Rs.10,000/- for third place team – Thomas Club

  1. Display cheques were handed over to above teams by the Chief Guests, Mr. Ajay Kumar Rudra and Shri Kariya Munda. The winner and runners up trophies for men and women were also handed over to the respective teams by the Chief Guests and other dignitaries. The prizes (memento and cash prize of Rs.2500/-) of Best Player (men) of the tournament went to Shri Cyprian Topno of NOIDA Hockey Club. Women hockey final match winner Ekta Hockey Club was also given the cash prize of Rs.2,200/- and Runner-up Munirka Hockey Club took away the cash prize of Rs.1,100/-

2. Title of Tournament- First ONGC- CHOTA NAGPUR  TRIBALS KNOCK-OUT HOCKEY TOURNAMENT 2011-12 : Organised by Hockey Association of Chota Nagpur Tribals, Delhi (Regd.)

  1. With the generous financial support received from well known Maharatna Company ONGC, thanks to ONGC, the First ONGC-CHOTA NAGPUR Tribal Knock-Out Hockey Tournament 2011-12 was held from 17.3.2012 to 29.4.2012. As many as 32 men teams and 3 women teams participated in the tournament. The teams were divided in four groups of eight teams each. All 32 matches excepting Girls teams were played on knockout basis at the venue of MDC National Hockey Stadium, New Delhi. The final match of the Tournament was played between Ekta Club and Shuttering Club on 29th April 2012 at MDC National Hockey Stadium, Synthetic Turf Ground, New Delhi under the flood-lights.  The Guest of Honour and the Chief Guest of the final match Shri M.V. Cherian, General Manager, Office of Director (HR) ONGC and Arjuna Award Winner & PadamShri Dilip Tirkey, Parliamentarian from Odisha, who is a very renowned personality in the field of Indian Hockey, were present to encourage the teams and tournament organizing committee. The other dignitaries include Shri Rameshwar Oraon, Chairman, ST Commission, Shri Manohar Tirkey, MP from Alipurdwar, Shri Hemanand Biswal, MP from Sundargarh, Shri Shanti Priye Beck, Dir (Vig.), Railway Board, Shri Mukti Prakash Tirkey, Editor, Dalit Adivasi Duniya,  Mrs. Sudershan Pathak, Mr. Bhupinder Singh, Shri N. S. Bindra and Mr. Ramlal all from Hockey Delhi.  Other guests include senior Government Officials from different Departments and Senior Officials from public sector like Air India, ONGC, etc. The houseful & packed stadium indicated presence of a large gathering to witness the final match.

Before the match, Chief Guest and Guest of Honour were welcomed by traditional cultural group dance. The match started at very fast note with the attacks and counter attacks by the teams.  As the match progressed, it became interesting and game was enjoyed by the spectators and Guests. Ekta Hockey Club finally clinched the First ONGC Chota Nagpur Tribal Knock-Out Hockey Tournament 2011-12 by defeating Shuttering Hockey Club by 1 goal to 0 . The umpires of the match were national umpires, Mr. Mahesh Kumar and Mr. Arun Garg of Delhi Hockey who supervised the final match exceptionally well.  The third place match was also played before the final match where Thomas Club defeated Loyola Hockey Club by 2 goals to 1. After the match, the prize distribution ceremony took place and cash awards sponsored by ONGC were announced to winner, i.e., Ekta Hockey Club -Rs.50,000/-, runners up team, i.e.,  Shuttering Club-Rs.25,000/- and 3rd placed team, i.e., Thomas Club- Rs.10,000/-. In the Girls Section, cash prizes were given – Rs.10,000/- to Winner, i.e., Ekta Club, Rs.7,500/- to Runner-up, i.e., R. K. Puram and Rs.5,000/- to Najafgarh hockey club.  Display cheques were handed over to above teams by the Guest of Honour, Shri M.V. Cherian, General Manager, Office of Director (HR), ONGC and Arjuna Award Winner & PadamShri Dilip Tirkey, Parliamentarian from Odisha. The Championship trophies were handed over to Winners and Runners-up teams by the Guest of Honour & Chief Guest respectively.
  1. The winner and runners up trophies for men and women were also handed over to the respective teams by the Chief Guests and other dignitaries. The prize (memento and cash prize of Rs.2500/-) of Best Player (men) of the tournament went to Shri Prakash Jojo of Ekta Hockey Club.
